Pallawatsch - dance music between tradition and interpretation ...
The beginning of Pallawatsch was in October 1995, when several musicians met at the "long night of klezmer" with Leopold Kozlowski, Joshua Horowitz, Isaak Loberan und Albert Thiemann in the VHS Stöbergasse in Vienna. Since then, sometimes up to 15 persons made klezmer music and played for other people in different combinations. Out of this, "Pallawatsch" (Hungarian/Viennese for muddle/disorder) Angelika Reisner, Corinna Oesch, Wolfgang Burck, Eva Pankratz und Martin "Tino" Mixan in autumn 1996 began to work on their first real gig at 18/12/1996 with klezmer and yiddish songs in the protestant community of the university in Vienna.
After many concerts, gigs, nights with music at celebrations and a few changes Pallawatsch now consists of Eva Pankratz, Günther Schöller und Martin "Tino" Mixan since april 2000 - singer Miriam Papst joined in november 2003.
Our repertoire comes from the traditional eastern european klezmer, we prefer to play mostly unknown yiddish songs and klezmer tunes. The moving words of the songs, the thrilling dances (they can be shown and danced with the audience), the beautiful and sometimes unusal hot melodies, the freedom of interpretation and showing your feelings, the soul of the music fascinates us as well as the different musical influences from eastern europe and the orient.
